General Fic Likes/Dislikes

Likes: explorations of character dynamics, bromance, unusual friendships between characters, male and female characters being friends, characters who can't quite manage to reach each other, bittersweet endings, slice of life shenanigans.
Dislikes: use of first or second person, crackfic, grimdark fic, trope-heavy fluff (sickfic, h/c, etc), soulmates/soulbond AUs, genderswap, future fic, marriage fic, pregnancy fic, kidfic, married-with-kids as ideal happy ending, original characters in major roles, straight-up canon retellings, alpha/beta/omega, dub-con/non-con.
In terms of AU, my first preference is almost always exact canon by a mile; I'm alright with some canon divergence, mostly for-want-of-a-nail stuff, but am not especially interested in fix-it fic. I'm also kind of into sci-fi AUs (mech pilots/hackers/spaceship crew/literally whatever), although I'd like all the characters to still be human/their original species. (No straight universe or lore crossovers, though). Mundane AUs, and anything else not mentioned here, don't really do it for me.
I'm okay with smut, assuming it's between consenting parties above legal age, but I don't particularly want straight PWP and I'd rather it be rooted in plot or character. I'm also becoming increasingly frustrated with characters in fic having amazingly hot sex all the time; I'm far more interested in sex which is believably imperfect or says something about the dynamic between two people. My tastes in smut run fairly vanilla, with the caveat that I'm uncomfortable with women being submissive (and am more than a little partial to femdom, if it fits with the characters and pairing).
